Every citizen has the right to exercise a citizen's right to any state institution or The Right to Information Act, No. 12 of 2016, is an Act established with the aim of granting the right of access to information required for the protection of the public interest, as provided by law.
Requests for information or requests for information may be made either in writing or orally using the application form RTI 01 to provide information relevant to the Sri Jayewardenepura Kotte Divisional Secretariat Division under the said Act.
Application for information
- 1. Submit an application, letter or verbal request bearing the number RTI 01 to the Information Officer to obtain the required information and obtain a reply acknowledging receipt.
- 2. You will be informed as soon as possible or within fourteen days whether the information you have requested can/cannot be provided.
3. If a fee is required to be paid when it is decided to release the requested information, you will be informed of the relevant fee set by the Commission. The requested information will be provided to you within fourteen days upon payment of the prescribed fee or, if no such fee is charged, free of charge. If for some reason it is difficult to provide the relevant information within fourteen days after payment, the Information Officer will inform you of the reasons for the extension and provide you with the information within an additional period not exceeding 21 days.
- 4. When the information requested relates to the life or privacy of an individual, a response must be provided within forty-eight hours of the request.
- 5. If you are not satisfied with the following responses you receive regarding the information you requested, you may submit an appeal to the designated officer within fourteen days.
- • Refusal of a request for information
- • Refusal of access to information on the grounds that it is information that may be withheld under section 5.
- • Failure to comply with the time frame specified by the Act.
- • Providing incomplete, misleading or false information.
- • Charging excessive fees.
- • Refusal by the Information Officer to provide information in the manner requested.
- • Where the citizen making the request has reasonable grounds to believe that the information requested has been tampered with, destroyed, or misplaced in order to prevent access to it.
