Obtaining a business registration
Business registration certificate issued under two categories
*Sole Proprietorship
*Partnership
Sole Proprietorship business registration
If a sole proprietorship is carried on under a name other than the full name of it’s owner, such h business must be registered with the provincial business registrar in terms of section32 of the western province trade coperation and incoperated business names statute no 5 of 2011 of the gazette of the democratic socialist republic of Sri Lanka, under the relevant provincial council business statute .This registration can be obtain by divisional secretariat.
1.Download the relevant application form from the Kotte divisional Secretariat web site kotte.gov.lk or obtain it from office.
2.Report from the grama niladhari of the relevant area pertaining to the business premises,for the purpose of business name registration.
- 3. Duly completed application and the above grama niladhari report, together with the required documents depending on the nature of the business (according to given instruction) should be submitted to divisional secretary
4.Aftrt considering above facts business registration certificate will be issued.
Partnership
If the ownership of the business is divided between two or more parties ,it must be registered as a partnership business.
The procedure for registering apartnership is similar to that followed for sole proprietorship
Capital investment Registration fee
Up to Rs 299,999/- Rs. 1,500/-
Rs 300,000 to Rs499,999/- Rs2,500/-
Rs 500,000/- and above Rs3,500/-
When submitting a statement of changes
The date of commencement and initial capital of a business cannot be amended .
The following documents must be submitted to make amendments
- Completed (W.P.)B.N.R.R. application form
- Registration certificate finally issued by the department(original copy0
- Grama niladhari report
- Certified copy of national identity card
- To confirm that the ownership of the business premises has been transferred ,Notarized copy of the registered lease agreement (not required if same address)
- Assessment notice for the most recent year
- Document and recommendation to be submitted depending on the nature of the business
- Certified copy of trade license or trade tax receipt
- Certified copy of partnership agreement ,if any(by a notary)
- Other documents that may be called for by the registrar.
- If a partner in in partnership agreement must be confirmed by an affidavit .The departing partner must give notice of departure.
- Form D S 04 to confirm residence if the business owner resides in another divisional secretariat.

Issuing a certificate according to statement of changes -Rs3000.00
Removal of name from business name registration register cancellation of business name
If a business is registered but the business is not being operated ,the business name must be cancelled
1.Completed (W.P.)BNR5 application form
2.Registration finally issued by the department(original)
3.Grama niladhari report
4.Certified copy of national identity card
5.An affidavit from the owner of the establishment stating that the business has been closed , the
date of closure, and that there are no debts to pay for the business at the time of closure.
6.Other documents requested by registrar situationally.

Obtaining a certified copies
If the business name certificate is missing, a certified copy can be obtained.
